Il Granaio · Granary suite · Puglia · Trulli d'Amore

Il Granaio:
the largest,
the highest.

It was completely collapsed when we took on the masseria. We rebuilt it keeping the exposed beams, the sloping roof, and the holes where the beams once held the grain. Today it is the largest suite, with a double aspect.

The granary suite at our Puglia trullo, the largest bedroom at Trulli d'Amore. A family-friendly room, restored while keeping the original beams of the masseria's granary, with en-suite bathroom and a window onto the fields. Spacious, bright, with the charm of exposed stone.

The name

Granary suite at our Puglia trullo: the highest point of the masseria

Historically, in a masseria, the granary was the highest space. You climbed up by an internal ladder, and above were the wooden beams that supported the grain. When we took on Trulli d'Amore, the granary had completely collapsed. We could only see the holes in the walls, where the beams had once been fixed.

We rebuilt the ceiling, putting the exposed beams back in the same place. Above the beams, the sloping roof, covered with tiles in the traditional way. We left the holes in the walls visible — they are the signature of the room, the only way to remember what it was before.

Even the bathroom tells a story. It used to be a livestock stall — a low space, set against a wall of raw stone. We transformed it without betraying it: the animals' stone wall is still there, in plain sight, and you shower facing it.

The space

Exposed beams,
double aspect.

A 160x200 double bed under the sloping ceiling. The beams draw dark lines above the white walls. The room is the largest of the four, but does not feel large — it feels enveloping, because the slanted roof guides the eye downwards.

The aspect is double: on one side, the adjacent olive grove — the same trees you see from Le Mangiatoie, from a different angle. On the other, the inner courtyard with the small herb garden: rosemary, sage, basil, mint. When the wind moves, the scent reaches inside the room.

There is a single sofa-bed that opens out when needed. For a child, for a third friend on a weekend, for reading at the end of the day. When closed, it is just an armchair — comfortable, not bulky.

The en-suite bathroom is spacious, with a walk-in shower and — this is something only those who have tried it can tell you — RGB lighting under the shower. It is an unexpected detail: in the evening, beneath the ancient stone, the water falls in a different colour every time. A small contemporary kindness inside a 200-year-old shell.

Who it's for

For those who want space
and a story to touch.

Il Granaio is the largest suite, and the one chosen by families with one child or by couples seeking room to breathe. Beams above the head, double exposure, light entering from both sides during the day.

It is also the room with the most visible history: the transformation can be seen everywhere. The holes from the old beams in the walls, the animals' raw stone visible in the bathroom, the sloping roof rebuilt exactly where it was before. For those who come here looking for authentic architecture and not an imitation, this is the right suite.

The sofa-bed is only opened when needed. It does not ruin the space, does not shrink it. Most guests use it just as an armchair — the suite remains the most airy, even with three people.
