The Valle d'Itria travel guide —
written by those who live here

Eight topics. One place. The knowledge that takes years to accumulate.

Who wrote this guide

Not an algorithm.
Antonella and Anna D'Amore.

This guide was not written by an algorithm or a passing journalist. It was written by Antonella and Anna D'Amore, born in Bari, raised in this land, returned to Monopoli to restore the family trulli and open Trulli d'Amore in Valle d'Itria.

What you find here is what we truly know: villages before tourists, the right seasons, local markets, how to arrive, how to live this place from the inside. Not a list of attractions — a map of lived knowledge.

What everyone
wants to know

Short, direct answers. For everything else, write to Antonella.

May, September and October. Villages accessible without summer tourist pressure, mild climate, sea still swimmable. October brings the olive harvest — an experience not in standard guides. July and August work but are hotter and busier.
Bari Karol Wojtyla airport is about 60 km from Monopoli — under an hour by car. Car hire is recommended: Valle d'Itria is best explored with your own freedom of movement. Hertz, Avis, Europcar all operate at the airport.
Rural Puglian homes built with dry limestone — no cement, no mortar. The technique dates to the 15th–19th century and uses equilibrium to hold the conical structure. UNESCO listed the Alberobello trulli as a World Heritage Site in 1996. Sleeping in one changes your perception of the place.
Arrive before 9am. The Monti district is empty, silent and photographable. Tourist coaches arrive from 9:30 onwards. The early morning experience and the midday one are two completely different places.
